2026 HLA Conference

Lori Misaka is a librarian at Waipahu Intermediate School, with an MLIS from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and MFA from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Previously an ELA teacher at Waipahu High School, her experience in the EL department and Academy of Arts and Communication fueled her passion for multilingual literature, multimedia arts, and library advocacy. Her work at Waipahu Intermediate centers on building community, providing an accessible, safe space for students to connect, learn, and grow together. She served on the American Association of School Librarians national standards committee from 2023-2025, and on the board of the Hawai’i Association of School Librarians. She is also an advisor for the HOSA Future Health Professionals career and technical student organization at WIS.
